In her continuing effort to give back to the community, Shannon Szabados a goaltender for the Grant MacEwan Griffins Men's Hockey Team of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and also a former member of the Canadian National Women's Hockey Team has raised money again this season with the Shannon Szabados Saves For The Cure fundraiser to help in the fight against cancer.
The Saville Group is this year's major contributor, and as in the past are donating funds based on the amount of saves Shannon has made this past season. This is the third season for the Shannon Szabados Saves For The Cure fundraiser. This year's fundraiser has raised over $1,000 bringing the total funds raised to date at just over $4,500.
Prior to the Griffins last home game of the regular season on Saturday February 14, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the Performance Arena @ Servus Credit Union Place 400 Campbell Rd, St. Albert there will be a cheque presentation made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Brady Cook, brother of Matthew Cook will be on hand to accept the donation. Matthew Cook who is a current member of the Canadian Sledge Hockey Team and cancer survivor was a former teammate of Shannon's and the inspiration for this fundraiser.
The Alberta Cancer Foundation is the fundraising partner of the Cross Cancer Institute, the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, and 15 other cancer centres throughout the province.
